During this weeks session we had to critique/analyse other peoples and our own work, some of the things that were mentioned about some peoples were that the posters needed to be more technical for example using scale but also include things such as materiality, composition and think about how we can portray our items movements. By using this feedback it has given me a good idea on where to start my poster due to not having one begun because of my operation.  I liked this poster due to how graphic and abstract the image was as although it wasn't identical to the object that was created you could tell that the poster belonged to the artefact based on the shapes and composition The hands on nature of this poster is what drew me to it as you could tell that the person who created it was very involved in the process, it reminded me of the drawing exercise we done in the beginning of this process to the extract from enduring time as it feels very fluid.   what is an assemblage and where did it originate? I wanted to get a better understanding of the term assemblage and what it meant so spent the Time I had off to research this and then reflect back on the workshops to see how I may have changed things. The use of assemblage as an approach to making art goes back to  Pablo Picasso ’s  cubist  constructions, the three dimensional works he began to make from 1912. An early example is his  Still Life  1914  which is made from scraps of wood and a length of tablecloth fringing, glued together and painted.   This week I had to bring my item into university but because I commute it means that I had to get on a bus and train in order to achieve this. It made me uncomfortable due to the fact I had to get on a train at a busy period of time and people were staring and I had a few ask why I had a table on the train which they found amusing.  Lidar scan of the original item of furniture before I disassembled it to see how it evolves overtime.                                        I slowly took apart my furniture paying attention to the details of how it was originally assembled and how each part came apart in different ways and the craftsmanship of things such as the joins. whilst doing this I had to keep in mind the verbs I chose from the previous weeks text vibrant matter the words I chose were complicate provoke  assemble  these words were the starting point in order for m...

To begin the session of this week we listened to a chapter of vibrant matter titled thing power 1: Debris  written by Jane Bennett, whilst listening I picked up certain things that I found interesting such as the fact that we pick things up in sequences and one thing may lead us to seeing another such as in the text it mentions something reflecting onto something else and being seen which might not have usually been the case. this also reminded me similarly to something we all found whilst in Fratton doing a site visit we were supposed to be looking at details and our eyes were drawn to a dead rat which was ironic due to the text this week now being able to be linked back. We went on a trip to Fratton and visited 2 locations the first being St Mary’s church in fratton, whilst at this location we were told to pay close attention to detail and done numerous drawing activities to challenge this such as closing our eyes and also finding lines that create a weft within the building. We then compared what  sounds were like inside and how they contrasted to the outside and the juxtaposition of this and the noises we could hear such as the wildlife, human activities etc. this also helped me be open minded about about how the space would be used by everyone and everything not just humans. how would changing something impact the use of the space for the animals such as the squirrels?  St Mary's church Fratton  collecting lines that I could see that helped make up the structure of the church and seeing how it almost all weaves and interacts drawing with eyes closed- based on memory                    ...

  Studio week 1 one of the initial tasks I was asked to complete as masters students was to draw a line on a long piece of paper this was to help symbolise my position in the class with in my peers. it was interesting to see how everyone perceived this task as some people didn't just draw straight lines and they showed creativity and individuality. we all then participated in a group activity where we meditated to clear our minds and help us be present and then listened to a piece of text about time and loss and spoke about important parts we found in the words, after this we meditated again before being allowed to draw using different materials and non conventional techniques. The idea of the exercise was to think in a different way and not be so rigid when drawing giving us complete freedom to show what time is to us without being literal.
